Hilda, medical student at Wroclaw Medical University

Coming to Wroclaw Medical University was a very spontaneous decision. At first I didn’t even consider studying abroad, but I thought it would be a good opportunity to travel. Wroclaw and the Medical University Was my first choice, but I also thought about studying in Hungary. I’m very happy about the outcome, because although I came here not knowing anything about the city, I fell in love with it just after a week of living here.

I’ve always wanted to be a doctor. My mother was a nurse, so I would very often spend time in hospitals with her and  I was able to watch the doctors at work, which inspired me to choose this profession. I was a bit anxious at first because everyone told me that studying medicine is going to be very hard, but they were exaggerating. The classes aren’t easy of course, but it helps to have the support of my friends and classmates. One of the things that surprised me was that our teachers are really fluent in English – there’s absolutely no language barrier between us. Polish on the other hand is very demanding, but we have Polish classes during the first two years of studies. I’m planning to continue learning Polish because having basic language skills can help me communicate with patients.

Studying at Wroclaw Medical University has been a great experience so far. The people are friendly and the city is beautiful – all my friends love coming back here. I also like the studies being very hands-on and practical. The summer internships are also a big plus, especially that we don’t have them in Ireland.

Fredrik, stomatology student at Wroclaw Medical University

I came to Wroclaw for the first time in 2016 and the city made a very good impression on me. I decided to study here also thanks to the recommendation of my friend who’s been studying here for a long time and really likes the city. Wroclaw wasn’t my first choice, because at first I applied to a medical school in Norway, but when I thought about studying in Poland it seemed to be a good fit.

It turned out to be a very good choice – the city is great and I really enjoy the experience of being able to study with people from all over the world. My classmates live close by and we hang out very often. The studies themselves are also very interesting and I can feel that I have finally found a profession to which I’d like to dedicate my life to. I have chosen stomatology over medicine because it’s more specific and gives an opportunity to start working immediately after the graduation. In Norway a dentist usually works from 8 am to 4 pm, so it’s a very convenient profession which gives you a lot of time for yourself which is also a very big advantage.

I have no problems with classes, the teachers speak very good English. The Polish language is another story though, especially that dentistry students learn it only during their first year. I’d definitely like to know the language better, but I’m afraid there won’t be enough time with all of the other classes.

I would recommend studying in Wroclaw, because it’s a great city to live in with many opportunities to meet people from other countries and cultures. Studying at Wroclaw Medical University requires being focused and organised, but if you can manage that, you’ll have enough time to have fun and explore the city.
