FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

RECRUITMENT REQUIRES SUBMITTING RESULTS FROM:
chemistry, biology and physics or mathematics
Dentistry is a branch of medicine, which is why studying dentistry is similar to that of medicine in the first years. Dental surgeon deals with prevention and treatment of oral diseases and disorders. After receiving a diploma, he or she can work as a dental surgeon in the field of dentistry as a whole, or he/she can work as a specialist with broader and more specialised knowledge in, for example, conservative dentistry, dental surgery, orthodontics, prosthetics or periodontology.
We asked some of our students to whom would they recommend studying dentistry:
In my opinion, this profession is best described by the unfolding of the word DENTIST. D - doctor (dental surgeon), as the dentist treats not only the teeth, but the whole oral cavity, and should have general medical knowledge. EN - engineer, as the vast majority of treatment is carried out with medical instruments and equipment. And last but not least - artIST, as a dentist should have a sense of aesthetics and skilful hands. People who demonstrate these qualities are best candidates for this profession. Lovers of technological innovations and gadgets will enjoy dentistry, as it is one of the most rapidly developing branches of medicine in terms of technology.
Elżbieta Midura
I recommend dentistry to all ambitious people who do not want to have problems finding a place on the labour market and at the same time would like to help many people.
Michał Perszke
Anyone who wants to help with oral diseases and disorders, to improve the aesthetics of the teeth and face and to improve the patient's self-esteem.
Witold Świenc
We asked some of our students why they chose to study dentistry:
I derive great satisfaction from manual work, where you can see the effect of the effort put in. Desire to help others - not only physically but also mentally - is also part of choosing this field of study. The possibility of setting up your own practice in the future is also an advantage. This profession, just as importantly, gives you the opportunity to decide for yourself on your own development path, the nature of your work and activities. As a dentist, I don't have to simply follow another person's instructions, which will not always be in line with my vision.
Elżbieta Midura
I chose this field of study because dentistry is a part of medicine that is developing very rapidly and offers great opportunities.
Witold Świenc
Studying dentistry is part, or rather the beginning, of my plan to become an oral or maxillofacial surgeon.
Michał Perszke
In 2021 'Perspektywy' Education Foundation ranked Dentistry in WMU on 3rd place in Poland.
Zapytaliśmy kilku naszych studentów, dlaczego wybrali Uniwersytet Medyczny we Wrocławiu:
Działa tu mnóstwo organizacji studenckich i kół naukowych.

In this field of study, you will acquire general medical knowledge (many subjects overlap with medicine, especially in the first years) as well as specialist knowledge. You will study, among other things, anatomy, biophysics, pharmacology, histology, embryology physiology, pathomorphology, pathophysiology with emphasis on dental sections.
It is important to remember that dentistry is a speciality in which we will encounter more than just one type of patient, taking geriatrics or paediatrics as examples, so a good dentist should be flexible and have a good approach to each patient.
Classes take the form of lectures, seminars and practicals. In the first year you will practise hand dexterity, e.g. modelling teeth in wax. On the other hand, pre-clinical classes will begin. You will get ready to work with patients on special phantoms under the watchful eye of dental surgeons. You will meet the patient as early as your third year in clinical subjects such as ophthalmology, internal medicine, neurology, anaesthesiology or surgery.
Future dental surgeons are required to complete an internship after each year of study. In the first year these are one-month nursing internships in a hospital, later in dental practices where you can already assist with procedures, and after the third year you can already perform minor procedures yourself.
To become a dental practitioner, you need to complete five-year course of study followed by one-year internship and pass Medical-Dental Final Examination. Once you meet these conditions, you can apply for medical residency position in specialties such as pediatric dentistry, conservative dentistry with endodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, dental surgery, maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics and public health. However, it is not necessary to complete a residency in order to practise as a dentist.
A dentist does not have to limit himself to working in the dental office. You can work in non-public institutions, public institutions or research and development institutes, and you can also fulfil yourself as a teacher, for example at our Medical University.
The distinction between full-time and part-time studies is valid only for studies conducted in Polish.

2. information about the recognition of the university entrance examination (UEW) in subjects taken at another higher education institution
Please be advised that in the 2022/2023 admission process, Wroclaw Medical University will recognise certificates of results from UEW conducted from 2020 by other academic medical universities, on the template valid for 2020, in the subject area applicable to the particular field of study. The results of the preliminary examination will be recognised provided that the exams are conducted on the examination sheets prepared by the Central Examination Board and assessed according to the standards applicable when grading the matura exam sheets.
In 2016, the agreement on mutual recognition of results of entrance examinations for studies conducted in the Polish language was concluded by the following Universities:
* Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (CM UJ) recognises the achievements of candidates, obtained in exams conducted (nationwide mode) in other medical universities, but the Medical University of Wrocław does not recognise the results of the entrance exam taken since 2016 at CM UJ as CM UJ organises its own, not national, exams for candidates with the 'old matura exam'.
